Brutalis is s second book, after Gloria Lopez… Created by Thierry Van Hasselt in collaboration with Karine Ponties, the book was developed in tandem with the choreography bearing the same title. Its subject is the observation and transcription of the body in states that reveal sensations, of the body in movement and of the suspended body; also involved is the transcription of emotion and the establishment, through a succession of drawings, of a ‘narrative’ atmosphere that may be summed up as follows:
Darkness, solid and thick, landscape of dust and angles, preliminary observations, skin and bones, limbs and thought… Accelerated evolution of space, cyclical degeneration / Raw / without cleaning or tidying… Languor of posture, echoes of ink and paper. Impenetrable mirror. Furtive, fleeting images. Reflections swallowed up by the light. Leaving the hole… As if it were day (overexposed) / Heat and its opposite / Being outdoors, embracing it, putting the skin back where it belongs, shaking… Intimate and organic interior: finding the person to inhabit / Person to inhabit / Volatile, voiceless identity. Sowing discord. Still stirring.
