It’s in Japan that choreographer and dancer Cécile Loyer, recipient of a Villa Médicis Hors les murs fellowship, laid the first cornerstones of her research.
The question of memory, in all its dimensions, is a recurrent theme already in her earliest pieces, together with the concept of “border” as well as the notion of audience participation.
Her research is grounded in a collaboration with other artists, dancers, musicians, painters, writers, video-makers, who make her discover other ways of working and inventing. She is a stern defender of the idea of constant research, believing that the creative act lies in attempts, failure sometimes, and that dance is alive only when it is searching something or itself. That every piece is a step, and not a goal.
Founded en 2000 in Paris, Company C.LOY has supported and produced over 16 Cécile Loyer performances as of 2019.
In 2010, Company C.LOY moved to Vatan, at the heart of the Val de Loir region, with the goal of restructuring an old wine industry and creating a choreographic research center, La Pratique, opened on 19 September 2011.
Cécile Loyer is an associate artist at Equinoxe/Scène Nationale de Châteauroux.
