Dame de Pic

An excrescence that she cannot do without.

An abscess that plunges her into inevitable mimesis.

A presence struck by absence and a certain indifference.

The Dame de Pic (Queen of Spades) solo stems from many things, including Mann Mit Wespe, a painting by Michael Sowa. All at once, the painting embodies an intimate mini-thriller, an insectitude and a strange familiarity.

I also wanted to speak of the dogs and masters one sees in the parks and streets. They are the same, identical, bearing a strange resemblance. They are terrible and comical.

To speak of what we carry with us (objects, situations, beings), elements that can disrupt an entire life (abscesses, albatrosses) but from which we are unable to escape.

To speak of absurd links, of provocations by absence, of the isolationism that one senses lurking beneath the skin, and of how each person, in private, can be so foreign to the other.

Insectitude.

Our corporeal pantomimes are similar to those of insects—our interrupted movements, our momentum, our abrupt withdrawals, our hands that alternately grope about, avoid, graze and scratch one another.

Our gestures are so quick that we avoid eye contact with those who look at us.

Our gestures are so slow that they hold us within an intense but motionless luminosity; and now the vibrating point at the centre of our field of vision forms a hole between two periods of time.
